Hmmm, that was during the portion of debate about the definition of nit-picking and I gave specific examples of what nit-picking would be, it was not used against you personally in lieu of a substantive argument, unlike me being called a snob, elitist, a pseudointellectual, etc...etc.

Well, if we classify opinions as "valid" only those coming from people who have actual, practical and demonstrable experience with a given topic, then this is going to be a pretty barren forum in short order.

If you've not been a politician, then you cannot express an opinion regarding politics, right?

If you've not served in the military, then you cannot express an opinion regarding things military, right?

If you've not worked in the healthcare field, then you cannot express an opinion regarding health care, right?

Obviously, we are all free to attach more weight to the opinions of those with practical and demonstrable experience in a given field when that field is the subject. This is why I prefaced my opinion by saying that I had never served and that my opinion was shaped by what I had read and seen. Readers of my opinion should take that into account when deciding just how much stock to place in what I say. I would just hate to see only opinions by "experts" be given any weight at all, as there are some pretty sharp laymen on these forums.
