As Zell Miller famously said, "I didn't leave the party (Democrats); the Party left ME."
There's very little room for a conservative in the Democrat party these days. Look at Joe Libermann: he votes 90% with Democrats but that isn't good enough for them.
I doubt Truman, JFK, Henry Jackson and others would recognize the current ideological positions espoused by the modern Democrat party. Modern Democrats have much more in common with Josef Stalin than John F. Kennedy.
Oh...and fly: I don't object to Democrats personally- I object to Democrats' POLICIES. A very big difference and one that very few on the Left seem to recognize. Democrats aren't the problem- radical-liberal-Blame America First-appeasement minded Democrats ARE THE PROBLEM!
It's not my fault that describes a bit more than 99% of the Party right now.
You see, I don't have those ideological blinders on that cause me to agree or disagree with someone soley because they have a little "R" or "D" behind their names. I'm not that shallow. Your positions on the issues, not your person, are what matters to me.
I typically deplore Bill Maher's opinions. However, when he was one of the very few on the Left that backed the President's support of Israel over the Hezbos in their conflict, I was very quick to credit him with being intellectually honest. Maher was able to set aside his personal loathing of Bush to recognize that, in this one instance, he got it right. How could I not do the same for Maher?
