The shearing of the sheep

Unread postby clynt » Mon May 22, 2006 7:09 pm

When someone can actually tell me what happened on that plane, I'll revisit the event at the movies. Making money from tragedy is the Hollywood way. Michael Moore made a documentary that was pure bull
s**t and made a fortune. If you remember, a woman wrote a whole long book based on 'Let's Roll' about 93. Do you think that happened without a little urging from competing publishers who could have cared less about patriotism? I believe in good intentions when there is no book or movie deal, no jeans shoot and no Playboy layout involved. We have had contrived shows like Survivor and Idol jammed down our throats for years. Mobil skeletons like Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie are considered to be role models for our children and as such, we have seen the advancement of dangerous eating disorders that can reap havoc on the body chemistry of our daughters. Paris Hilton is the resultant nasty goo from the unfortunate unprotected sex of two immature individuals, and I haven't as yet started on their 'bad parenting.' Ashlee and Jessica Simpson are the icons of the 'lemmings.' Pamela Anderson along with her herpes, hepatitis C and phony tits epitomize our plastic society.

Oh and then there's O'Reilly who complains that too many charities and organizations are trying to get in your pocket and in the next breath, he's hawking 'Factor Gear."

The word 'hero' has been cheapened down to correlating with 'superstar' in the NBA.
If your kid doesn't steal other kid's lunches at school, by Cable News Standards, he's a 'hero.'

ridiculous.

first of all, they probably lost money when all's said and done.

secondly, i guess no event can ever be filmed or written about. speilberg will just have to turn in his schindlers and saving private ryan oscars, huh?

thirdly, they gave a rather large percentage of the GROSS (not net or profit) on opening weekend to the memorial.

fourthly, i think its more than a little distasteful of you to besmirch the motivations behind the approval given by ALL the remaining surviving families, esp since you aren't one of them.

btw, all of the profit o'reilly's gear makes goes to charity, or didn't you know?

Is 'probably' the keynote word?

Never cared for Spielberg, Leonardo DeCaprio an airline pilot for Pan Am.

All tax deductible.

I'm besmirching the profiteering movie industry or have you had a little too much vodka with your soda?

Thats what I said. He wants it for his charities, and you need to be made painfully aware that your opinion is no better than anyone else's.

Know what? Sometimes you're just not very pleasant.

That said, this is the second time you've brought up profits made on various things. Do you dislike money in general? Or would you like it better if no one had much? What's so wrong with being successful and at the same time sending an important message (as is sometimes the case since everyone isn't Paris Hilton)?

its me stating that i don't know... but more importantly, i don't care. frankly, if making money gets more movies like this made, (as someone who has actually seen it), FINE by me.

not the point. the passion, raid on entebbe, the elephant man, WHATEVER, take your pick. by your rule, none are acceptable.

clynt wrote:All tax deductible.

ASSUMING there's even a profit! there's no guarantee there would be, and the donation is made regardless.

and in any case, attacking generousity b/c its tax deductible is silly beyond words.

clynt wrote:I'm besmirching the profiteering movie industry or have you had a little too much vodka with your soda?

well, you attacked the author as well. the point is, profit doesn't matter. how the topic is handled is all that matters, and here, its with the utmost respect.

if they, the families, WANT the story to be told, the idea it shouldn't be b/c god forbid someone who's taking the risk to provide the capital to make it MIGHT make some money, is as far as this sensitive capitalist's concerned, absurd.

clynt wrote:Thats what I said. He wants it for his charities,

and you, incredibly, have a problem with this?

if he criticizes one charity, he can't give to another?

ok b-wick. er, i mean "clynt." i wasn't aware that i had stated otherwise, but then again, i'm a mixed menu.

I thought you were supposed to be the moderator of this site. If you are then you should moderate, if not, don't act like you are. You sound like Major League baseball giving Steve Howe his absolutely, positively last chance. Perhaps if you want to know the reason there is no one here anymore you should take a look in the mirror er b--wick whoever that might be.

what, exactly, does that mean?

are you saying i should just say nothing that challenges you or anyone else? i am not free to speak b/c of my position?

funny, some others think i don't speak up enough. i'm like the msg board version of o'reilly's viewer mail, he does a segment, then people from opposite sides say the segment pandered to the other side, the SAME segment!

reminds me of the joke about the grandmother, (who, as it was told to me, was jewish), who gave her grandson two ties, one red, the other blue.

the next day, he wore the red one, and when she saw him she said, "what, you didn't like the blue one?"

so people don't come here anymore b/c i am here? nothing personal, but obviously you're upset i took you to task on your opinions, and you don't like being challenged, so you're attacking me and the site, pretty lame.

just so you know, and you can ask jay k about this, any site like this thrives or dies based on promotion and visibility. Bernie doesn't push the site much, and he's not on TV all the time or radio, and it was started after his first two books... so the fact that its as big as it is, is a big success actually. its as good as it needs to be, or could reasonably be expected to be.

and the traffic goes up or down not based on my posts, but based on when Bernies making the rounds, sorry to disappoint ya.

Geez, Sinatra. You must be losing your touch cuz you just can't get any love around here, can you? You should tell your critics how much sleep you're losing so they'll know they haven't criticized in vain.

Clynt, I assume you have a remote with your TV, try the channel selector or the off button, no one forces you to watch. You certainly don't have to go to movie theaters.

As far as O'Reilly and charities go it is about time somebody told the truth about them. I have never been one to donate due to the thievery that goes on. Take a look at the United Way and their former boss and the beat goes on. The red cross has always been suspect. They charged GI's for smokes during WW 11.

When I was a cop in Philadelphia we were forced to contribute to the United Way, and I mean forced. If you liked where you worked you would give or get transferred.

the american red cross is a-ok, its the other thats "UNish."
