I have completed my first year of law school, so I took Torts, Constitutional law, criminal law, contracts etc. The cost of my first year in law school was $37,000....essentially all law school students are doing is taking "legal philosophy" classes until they sit for the 2 day BAR exam which gives them the legal License to practice law in the court system.
The BAR exam is the only measure of ones ability to practice law, it seems to me that law students in general are being scammed into paying $100,000 for an education that in most cases doesn't even prepare you to pass the BAR exam. Abraham Lincoln didn't have any formal education....he was self-taught and passed the BAR and practiced law!
My contention is that one can learn the law through self-study, then sit for the bar and save a heck of alot of money. We keep on hearing that we are a nation of laws, but at the same time average citizens are not allowed to practice law without jumping through the socialist hoop of college and law school which is a HUGE cost. If one can demonstrate that he or she is proficient in the knowledge of the law, shouldn't that person be allowed to take the BAR exam and practice law without dropping $100k on law school???
