Santorum - Would you allow your kids to Google it?

Just want to rap about whatever you want and it doesn't fit any other category? Do it in here.

actually it was a rhetorical question.

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply. Rhetorical questions encourage the listener to think about what the (often obvious) answer to the question must be. When a speaker states, "How much longer must our people endure this injustice?", no formal answer is expected. Rather, it is a rhetorical device used by the speaker to assert or deny something (e.g., "Can you do anything right?"). While sometimes amusing and even humorous, rhetorical questions are rarely meant for pure, comedic effect. A carefully crafted question can, if delivered well, persuade an audience to believe in the position(s) of the speaker.....

I've been away for a while. I don't know much about NAMBLA but if they are gay pedophiles they are just as disgusting as straight pedophiles. I have some gay friends. They are as appalled by these creeps as anyone else. The most disgusting display of pedophilia comes from the Roman Catholic church (Santorum is a Catholic) with their systematic protection of pervert priests.

While this wasn't directed specifically at me, I'm not so sure that you can factually state that "the most disgusting display of pedophilia" comes from the Catholic Church when you have the existance of NAMBLA, which is actively supported by many on the Left. Indeed, the only people who are not lauded when it is found that they are gay are conservatives/Republicans. Then the same group (the Left) that tells us that gays must not only be tolerated but, indeed, indulged tell us how bad these gay conservatives/Republicans are. Either being gay is fine regardless of your ideology (which is my position) or it is wrong regardless of your ideology. There can be no middle ground here.

I have no problem going after creeps who hurt others - sexually or otherwise. I just don't like others telling me how to run my life. Social conservatives are religious throwbacks that I would love to throw back. :P

Again, that is not a view shared by many, it seems, on the Left. Removing the gay angle from the discussion, sex between adults and children regardless of the sex of the people involved is illegal, yet the Left defends the likes of Roman Polanski. Only if Polanski was a Republican would the Left mobilize its attack dogs against him.

As for me, this forum is getting less interesting so I visit less often. Please pass on my regards to regulars here.

We do miss those that stir the pot. I hope you will be moved to return and post more often.

Although I define Myself as a religious social conservative I know many who have no religious belief one way or the other, and many who are devout atheists. So the second quote I've used is just another example of(in my opinion) left/liberal hate-speach for lack of any Real argument on your part.
I don't know that you are capable of any better, but you ought at least to try.

If religion enriches your life, terrific. My problem is with social conservatives who want me to live by their values. That describes just about every one of them that I've known.

Anyway, it's not likely that a social conservative will get elected President. I think that Romney has the nomination locked up. Santorum doesn't have an awful lot of traction outside the social conservative constituency in the Republican Party.

With regard to your objection about my mentioning that Santorum is a Catholic. I know Catholics of conscience who left the church due to its continuing cover-up of child abuse. Santorum as a man of principle could have joined them. He didn't.

I asked along these lines before, but I think I might understand better. Straight question: do you have a problem with people who try to impose values on others' lives, or just with social conservatives doing it?

Straight answer: I have a problem with anyone trying to impose his values on me. I just find that social conservatives do this more often than anyone else.

Thanks for answering.

I obviously can't speak to your personal situation, so I'd be a fool if I suggested you didn't get more judgment from conservatives than liberals. But in terms of higher profile and/or powerful people, it's the liberals who absolutely own the judgmental, sanctimonious demand that everyone change their lifestyle to suit them. And then they go live exactly the way they tell others is wrong.

This behavior isn't unique to liberals, but the disgracefully high percentage of those doing it? Absolutely unique to them. And something to ponder: who personally benefits more from their own hypocrisy, liberals or conservatives?

I found that sanctimony comes in all political stripes. I see the leftists and liberals here trying to impose political correctness. They somehow think that they have a lock on righteousness. It's sickening. My motto is to live and let live. I promise to stay out of your face if you stay out of mine. I think that we can agree there. Well, sort of...
