Some of the socially conservative types in Mississipi may find this article interesting...

The more more righteous the politician portrays himself, the more skeptical I become.

It might be a good idea to keep those Mississipi mayors out of sinful Toronto where they could be led astray. :o

Having spent some time in Mississippi and living next door here in Alabama, I'm pretty sure that there is no Magnolia State equivalent to "Priape" (hope I spelled the name correctly), so the poor guy had to travel a bit to, ah, indulge himself.

He should step down if it is proven that he misspent the public's money. What he misspent it on should be irrelevant.

The piece raises two questions in my mind:

1) can you not be gay and conservative?

2) can you not be gay and be pro-family values?

WEAP

Those are good questions. It depends on how you define Family Values.

As for being Conservative - why not? There are log cabin Republicans. Aren't they conservative? Maybe - if you define it as being fiscally responsible.

I'd agree here.

The perception is that all gays are monolithically in favor of such things as gay marriage rather than civil unions and, on the GOP side of things, being against gay marriage is considered being pro-Family Values. Personally, I think that the term "family values" encompasses a great deal more than just opposing gay marriage and abortion, but too many on the Right think it ends there.

Bingo- well said.

My guess is that most Log Cabin Republicans are probably fiscally conservative and socially moderate. I find myself in that gray area when it comes to some issues myself.
