Latino term

While watching Bernie Goldberg tonight he repeatedly used the term "Latinos". First of all where did this corrupted form of Latin come from and how it ended up being used the way it is today and how did Latin which came from Europe end up being applied indiscriminately and exclusively to Spanish speaking peoples of the Western Hemisphere within the past few decades and now made into a racial category for themselves when most of them are not of the Latin stock, nor did Latin come from them, neither did they ever speak it and most of them except Argentina and Uruguay are mestizos and mulattoes. Any one with a decent knowledge of history would know is that Latin, by language, culture, and tribes originated and developed in Europe, specifically, Italy, by ancient Rome, Julius Ceaser, Pompeii, and the Vatican and Italians are the true original Latins since its their historical and cultural legacy for over 2000 years and was the language of Rome when Christ walked the earth. If the reason is made why Hispanics are called Latin is because the Spanish language derived from Latin then what about the other Romance speaking languages such as the French which is also derived from Latin and Italian itself which is the closest to it. And just because some one speaks Spanish that doesn't make one Latin just as an American that speaks English which is derived mainly from Germanic doesn't make one Germanic. What is even more baffling is how with everyone so defensive over the slightest offense committed that this travesty to one of the worlds most profound heritages is allowed and no one sets the record straight
