Bernie stated on Bill O' Reilly that no one is arguing that the church has to perform gay marriages. However in the state of Hawaii a law that went into effect as of 1/1/12 exempts clergy from performing gay marriages, but does NOT allow churches the right to refuse the use of their property to those who want to use it for same-sex unions. This type of law is a trend that will continue.

Bernie stated that he believes that gay marriage is a civil right. Historically marriage has always been about protecting and nurturing the children that are created as a result of heterosexual sex. Throughout hisory premarital sex was frowned upon even if the man and the woman were too old to have children because society wanted to reinforce the model of sex belonging inside of marriage.

Only in recent history have the courts and our society come to believe that marriage is all about love. This has caused untold harm to children whose parents never marry and/or go through multiple relationships. That children are better off being raised by their own two biological parents has been well known for centuries - remember the wicked stepmothers in the old fairy tales.

Changing the definition of marriage to say it is about love is nonsensical and is harming our children. Bill O'Reily stated you can't change the rules for one group, homosexuals, and not for others who demand the right to marry anyone and everyone (or anything) they love. I have read articles about people who believe in multiple partners and how they are interested in slowly pushing the acceptance of multiple partners as the idea of gay marriage becomes more acceptable.
