Bernie on Bachmann & "submission"

Unread postby Conservachick » Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:23 pm

I just saw Bernie on the O'Reilly show (Monday, 8/15/11). Laura Ingrahm was hosting. Bernie thought Bachmann gave a typical political dodge to the question at the Iowa debates about Bachmann "submitting" to her husband. Bernie didn't think Bachmann was authentic in her answer about "submission" equalling "respect".

Well, Bernie is incorrect. He doesn't understand bible translation & interpretation then. He needs to investigate approaches to translating the bible (e.g. word-for-word, thought-for-thought, and paraphrasing) and also how the whole of evangelicals/Christians view the concept of "submission" between a husband and wife. When the bible is translated (from Hebrew, Greek, Arabic), the best fit English word(s) and terms are applied using a combination of word-for-word, thought-for-thought, and paraphrasing. Modern day usage of terms is different than in the time they were used when the bible was originally written. You must understand this before you pass a judgment on something you obviously don't much understand.
Michelle was not dodging the question regarding submission. We do look at it as mutual respect. The NKJV "Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them." Submit does not mean an unthinking obedience. If you study the verse in its context as well as its parallel passage (Eph. 5:21), it means mutual submission (respect).

Bernie, you are way off base on the "submission" reply. She dealt with the question, which was booed because of its deeply personal nature during the debate, in a very admirable way. I agree with you frequently, but sometimes you get on the wrong side of an issue, won't listen to common sense like Laura's response to you, then you ride that beaten horse into the ground. Bernie, it would show your truly considerable intellect to take pause, reaccess, and acknowledge that you might be wrong sometimes. Still love ya.

Both comments are on the mark. Bernie, your characterization of the Bachmann response in the debate, and related comments you made Monday night on the Factor were puzzling, as in out of character for you. Does this telegraph a dislike or dismissal of Michele Bachmann? I'm sure every journalist and commentator has his/her biases and preferences in the candidates, and party. But there is an imcumbent responsibility to treat each candidate objectively, as best you can. For example, I am not enamored with Sarah Palin, as so many are. Her personality and verve can only go so far in the serious, solution-based needs we have for a pragmatic but knowledgeable candidate. In my book, she lacks the depth of that knowledge at present. Perhaps by 2016 she will have educated herself sufficiently to be viable. Right now, this ship is listing badly to the Left, or Portside, and being tossed perilously by stormy citizen seas very close to a nasty, socialist reef threatening to tear her asunder, sink her and all her cargo- us.

The metaphor means this: We cannot afford another term with Obama; we also cannot afford another high-energy, bubbly personality with charisma, if they don't have the deep substance, the knowledge, skills and ability to wrestle the wheel back on course, our ass is in a sling. Bachmann may very well meet that requirement, so let the superfluous, trivial personality-based stuff go, OK? Look, if she gets elected, she ain't going to run upstairs and pray ask hubby whether she should throw the switch and annihilate Iran -she's just going to work it through with her staff and the right people, and hopefully make the right decision to blast that bunch of spastics to Hell.

I'll pick her over Palin in a heartbeat, and except for Rick Perry, over the rest of the bunch wallowing around the Republican candidacy. She ain't got balls, but she's got the next best thing to 'em. So cut her some slack.

Why don't you concentrate on the impending dirty tricks Obama's campaign will throw at us, if you want to do we citizens a favor? That Pandora's Box is ripe for picking, and no time like catching it early and exposing the rot and deceit before they get a chance to play it out. Remember 2008 and ACORN, the Black Panthers; or SEIU and LaRaza's roll in getting Harry Reid a last minute swell of votes from unions in Las Vegas to grab the 2010 election? That was kid's stuff, compared to what's coming in 2012. These Lefties are going to be desperate to get Obama back in the catbird seat - every entitlement recipient is banking on it.

because I have Fox on nearly 24/7, I just saw this interview between Bernie & laura a SECOND TIME! Yikes! Between that & given the last comment on here--I want to make sure my point is clear. It's not about Bernie being too hard on Bachmann. There's nothing wrong with the question asked about 'submission' at the debate, as I figure many non-believers (& probably believers who don't "get it") are curious.

My point is, Bernie, YOU either have a very minimal understanding of Scripture & its meaning OR you have your mind made up of what the answer is (in other words, you know Bachmann's feelings between her & her husband better than she does)!!!

Bachmann answered the question truthfully & completely. Submission IS respect--according to Scripture. Bachmann would have been lying had she answered any other way.
